GPA Laboratories, a Sonic Healthcare Anatomic Pathology Practice, is privileged to include Dawn L. Butler, M.D., as a member of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Butler has an extensive academic, teaching, and medical professional background.
Dr. Butler earned her Bachelor of Science degree in clinical laboratory science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her Master of Science degree in microbiology and immunology from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, followed by her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. She went on to complete a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville. She completed the remainder of her postgraduate training at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, beginning with an additional anatomic and clinical pathology residency, and finishing with a hematopathology fellowship and a surgical pathology fellowship.
Prior to, and upon completion of her postgraduate training, Dr. Butler began holding key positions in professional medical settings. She held position as a medical technologist at Duke University, Patient First, and the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. She was the assistant professor and surgical pathology fellowship coordinator at the Wake Forest School of Medicine where she was twice awarded the Fellow Teaching Award, prior to her position with GPA Laboratories.
Over the years, Dr. Butler has developed extensive professional experience. She holds medical research publications and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, as well as oral and poster presentations at professional medical meetings and conferences. She is a member of several professional medical organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
Dr. Butler holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and hematopathology.
