Biography

GPA Laboratories, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is pleased to include Mark P. LeGolvan, D.O., as a member of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. LeGolvan brings extensive academic, research, and professional experience in medicine and is a valued asset of our pathology team.

Dr. LeGolvan graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, with dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry. After earning his B.A. degrees, he earned his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. Dr. LeGolvan completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. After his residency, he completed two fellowships in pathology. The first was a gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology fellowship at The Warren Alpert Medical School. His second was a hematopathology fellowship at the University of Massachusetts and UMass Memorial Health in Worcester.

Dr. LeGolvan has a robust professional background. Prior to joining GPA Laboratories, he was the medical director and pathologist of hematopathology, gastrointestinal/hepatic pathology and general surgery pathology at Pathologists Diagnostics Laboratory in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While there, he was also a consultant pathologist for Precision for Medicine Biospecimen Solutions, a consultant gastrointestinal pathologist and medical director for Gastroenterology Associates of the Piedmont, and the medical director of clinical laboratories at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy, NC. Before these positions, he was an attending pathologist at the Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, and Newport Hospital in Providence, RI, and the assistant director of labs and director of hematology at the Eleanor Slater Hospital in Cranston, RI. He has also held several academic appointments including an assistant and associate professorship at The Warren Alpert Medical School.

Dr. LeGolvan has extensive research experience, including positions at the Virus Research Institute and Genzyme Corporation, both in Cambridge, MA. He was a surgical attendant at St. Vincent’s Mercy Medical Center and a researcher at the Medical College of Ohio, both in Toledo. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and been an invited speaker at a number of academic and professional medical conferences.

Dr. LeGolvan also holds several U.S. patents. Dr. LeGolvan belongs to several professional organizations, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and the American Society of Hematology. Dr. LeGolvan holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology.
