Biography
GPA Laboratories, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Melissa Munoz-Bishop, M.D., as a member of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Munoz-Bishop has an extensive academic and medical professional background.
Dr. Munoz-Bishop earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University Autónoma de Centro America in San Jose, Costa Rica. She then received her medical degree from the same university. She completed a transitional medical internship at various hospitals across Costa Rica before relocating to the United States for her postgraduate training. She went on to complete an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the Hahnemann Hospital of the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She then completed a surgical pathology fellowship at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, and a dermatopathology fellowship at the Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
Upon completion of her postgraduate training, Dr. Munoz-Bishop began her professional career as a general practitioner and clinic director at the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social in Costa Rica. She then began working as a dermatopathologist at Columbia Skin Clinic in South Carolina, where she was also a partner and laboratory director prior to her position as a staff pathologist with GPA Laboratories.
Over the years, Dr. Munoz-Bishop has developed extensive professional experience. She is an active member of the College of American Pathologists, American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society of Dermatopathology.
Dr. Munoz-Bishop holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic pathology and dermatopathology.
